Blog Evaluations

1. "3 Questions"

Thoes questions are valuable. They helped me to see why I am studying English, and  let me know how can I learn English before I start. 

2. "Comments"

This was my first chance to get know my clssmates. I got comment from Leon, Tommi and Ocean. They gave me some questions that made me to think how can I change my habit to get better. It was fun. 

3. "Learning Styles Surveys"

I understood myself better with these two surveys. My score from aural and musical are highest. I think that means it is easier if I learn by listening. 

4. "Freedom Writers" - 1 Paragraph Essay

The movie was amazing. I enjoyed it. So I wrote this paragraph with inspiration. It was my first paragraph up to 400 words. 

5. "Daily English"

It was like my diary. I never use English to record my daily life before this. I know I will do that in the future for myself. I like it. 

6. "Freedom Writers" - 3 Paragraph Essay

I finally learned how to write a 3 paragraph essay. After this, I can try to use organization and develop the essay. I got experience. 

7. "A Good Place to Study" - 3 Paragraph Essay

Nice practice before the writing test. I'd like to get more practiced skill for 3 paragraph essay writing. 

8. "2 Recommended Websites"

I recommended some websites, which are my favorite places to checking news in English. And a website that specially good for listening skills. The best thing is I had knew several great websites from my classmates as well. 

9. "Visit a Classmate's Recommended Websites" 

This is my favorite assignment. I visited some websites, wich are really helpful to improve English. With my classmate's recommend, I collected many websites to my interested website list.  

10. "Blog Evaluations"

According to this assignment, I realized all the works I did during this semester are beneficial. This blog I would not to give up.

Use Netflix I can watch movies with English subtitle, which is improved me to understand the story. I can even make notes for some interesting vocabulary sentences. This website is free for the 1st mouth. How nice is that! And I found the second one is wonderful to collect materials for my essay writing.

HW #7

A Good Place to Study

       Finding a place for study is very important. Somebody like quiet and work alone. Somebody rather enjoy study with a group of people and discuss together. It depends on your own choice. But I know a Place and I highly recommend to you. That’s the LAC form PCC, which is a good place to study.

The first place I would like to introduce to you in the LAC is the reading center. If you want to work alone and always get good articles to read, this is your best choice. It has many paragraphs for you to practice your reading skill. You can use the practice sheet to answer the questions on the paragraph. It divided into many different colors. Each color means your level. I use them a lot and I think them improved my vocabulary building and reading speed.

The next place is the ESL center. It is at the same floor with the reading center. The biggest reason I like here is it has many great English workshops almost every week. So you can learn lots of interesting lectures out of class. And here always has an amazing service is tutoring. You can ask any question you can image in your English study life, for free!

The last place is the largest room in the LAC. You will notice it while you are walking into the floor. It has computers, scan machine, and copy machine. How wonderful is that! So you can use them after you had class, and you don’t have to go home if you need them right away. Here also has tutoring service and it is not only for English. The math tutor is the most popular service, if you would like to meet them you have to make appointment. This place has another reason for recommend if your want to enjoy a study group. There always has different groups you can choose and make more friends.

So here is three parts for you, there must have at least one place that you will fit in. Don’t worry if you can’t find a good place to study anymore. At LAC you are not get one place but three! Join it now, and you won’t regret.

    Freedom Writers was a good movie. Its about a class of high school students have being taught from a great teacher, and their lives totally changed since that. 

    First of all, a young Spanish girl named Eva told us a story about what happened to her real life in the very beginning. When she was a little, she saw her father has been arrested. But he was truly innocent. After that she and her friends grew up together through carious hardships and difficulties. There were lots of fights, shooting around her neighborhood because of gang disputes. Luckily, Eva had met a person who influences a lot at her freshmen year during high school, an amazing teacher. Mrs. G was also a freshman of her education careers. 
    Secondary, she had been dreaming about this moment for a long time, and she expected that she will have a class of lovely young students who would want to be taught. Obviously she was wrong. These kids don’t show any respects to her. They even had a big fight in front of her face, which not looks like what she thought. But Mrs. G never gave up; she really feels she has responsibility to her students. And the most important thing is she believes she can be a good teacher. She made many ideas to connect with her students. For example, she uses a rapper’s lyrics to teach Internal rhyme, and she divided the group situation at the same day. 

    The next thing happened to Eva is a tragedy. Her boyfriend killed a boy by mistake. This changed Eva’s thought, and let her to question what she believes. One day, Mrs. G used a ‘funny’ picture to explain everybody about Holocaust. But nobody was buying it; they said Mrs. G doesn’t know their situation at all. Mrs. G wanted to understand her students; she decided to let those kids started write journals of their life. By reading their stories, Mrs. G shocked about what these teenagers have to deal with every single day. I was moved by this plot, too. I can only imagine what it would look like, but it was real. Meanwhile, Mrs. G has to take a part time job to afford books and trips for her students, because the school doesn’t support her idea.  She did not waste it; everyone got benefit after her hard work. During the second semester, every student in her class already had been friends. 

    I really enjoyed this move and I learned a lot. Hilary Swank and other young actors told a real touching story. By this story I realized maybe there still has some classification today as reasons, but I knew that no matter what you are, only just what you can be.  

HW #5 Part5

Today was such a wonderful day. I connected one of my old friends who has not been keeping in touch. The great news is he is staying LA too. What a surprise! We have made a deal that we are going to have a cup of tea tomorrow. I am expecting for that.

My car has two tiers that have to change them right way. I used the last few energy of them drove to Costco, but there is no my tire's type and I must wait for 2 weeks in order. What am I suppose to do next week without a car? I don't want to walk to schooooool. :(

I got my Math 131 grade from the last half of semester. It is not bad actually.The math homework is too much for this week. However happiness weekend is coming!

It has been a long time that we didn't see Johnson and we miss her. There is a hour before we start class today, hope we can get chance to meet her. :)

I don't feel well today. I have been tired for a mouth. I didn't sleep tight and enough. Another hand, I got too many things to do, which totally drove me crazy. I really need sometime to relax myself at least for a day.

Improving English

            We have some plans about how to improve our English. Learning English is not easy for foreign people who do not have a clear mind to achieve their goals. First of all, we can start with listening skills. Listening to the radio and American songs are a good ways to increase listening skills. For example, you do not have to stay in one place. While you are driving or jogging, you can use the radio to listen to news, such as on 89.3 KPCC. After that, you can enjoy some American music and try to understand what they are singing. In addition, speaking is always a good way to communicate with people. While you are talking with native speakers, they will be correcting you grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Meanwhile, another way to improve communication is to remember a show or movie what you watched. After that, you can tell your friends the summary in English. Last of all, reading some great articles can really help, too. As soon as you find some interesting books, you will learn how to write correctly and fluently. Moreover, reading information from the Internet and newspaper are nice methods for you to get better. In conclusion, English is a popular and useful language to learn. If you want to improve your English, follow these steps you will be better in the future.

English is now a very useful skill. And I want to finish my bachelor's degree in American. On the other hand, I am always curious about the American cultures, included the music, fiction and film, etc. So learning English is helping me to know this country better and making more friends.

b) Do you use English very much when you're not in this class? Explain what situations you need to use it in. (50 words or more)
I think I need to use it almost everyday. Except in the class, I use English talk and text with my friends. And not only for my American friends now, because I am trying to speak English with my ESL classmates, too. Plus, living L.A. means I have to use English for daily life. For intense while I was looking for an partment near to PCC, I made a lot of phone calls and met with many managers for details. 


c) How do you feel when you use English? Are you sometimes nervous, comfortable, or...? Explain. (50 words or more)
I can understand what people are saying mostly. However, when I was talking, sometimes I can not figure out the word I want to speak. Specially during the writing test, I will get nervous because of the time, vocabularies, and topic. I am working on the vocabulary's building and reading, listening, speaking more.
